2017 Flower market in Rodemack, France

Close to the border, on a public holiday and in an old fortified town: three reasons to visit this market.

The market will be held on May 1st, from 10.00 to 18.00 on the streets of the town.

Walnut biscuits - recipe with step-by-step photos

Ingredients for the dough:
  • 250 grams of flour
  • 120 grams of butter at room temperature
  • 50 grams of powdered sugar
  • 2 spoons with milk
  • 1 egg yolk
  • a bit of baking powder
  • a bit of salt

Ingredients for the filling:
  • 150 grams of ground walnuts
  • 50 grams of butter at room temperature
  • 30 grams of sugar
  • 4 spoons with honey


Prepare the dough:

Beat the powdered sugar with the butter at room temperature until creamy.


Add the egg yolk and mix.


Add the milk, the flour, the baking powder and the salt and make a non sticky dough.



Put the dough to rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.

Prepare the filling:

Mix the ground walnuts with the butter, the sugar and the honey until well incorporated.


Take out the dough from the fridge and spread it on the table.

Above, add the walnut filling.

Roll it very tight and put it in the freezer for at least 2 hours.
 

Preheat the oven at 180 Celsius degrees!

After 2 hours, take the roll out of the freezer and cut it in circles, thick of 2-3 cm.


 Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown.

Chili con carne - recipe with step-by-step photos

Ingredients:
  • 600 grams of minced meat
  • 550 grams of beans
  • 150 grams of tomato juice
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 2 onions
  • 2 spoons with sunflower oil
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1 teaspoon with cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon with chili
  • a few seeds of cumin
  • salt



Heat the sunflower oil and fry the chopped onions.


Add the chopped bell pepper and let them fry for another 2 minutes.


Add the meat and let it cook covered with a lid for another 10 minutes.

Add the chopped tomatoes, the cumin seeds, the chili, the salt and the tomato juice and let it cook covered for another 30 minutes.



Add the beans and the cocoa powder and let them cook covered for another 30 minutes, mixing from time to time.

Cherry Sponge Cake - recipe with step-by-step photos

Ingredients for a small cake:
  • 150 grams of flour
  • 100 milliliters of milk
  • 100 grams of sugar
  • 10 - 12 cherries (or apricots, plums, etc)
  • 5 grams of fresh yeast
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 spoon with sunflower oil
  • salt



Mix the fresh yeast with 1 teaspoon with sugar and a few spoons with warm milk. Let it rest for a few minutes in a warm place.

Beat the eggs with the sugar for 7 minutes until they double the volume.


Add the flour and mix.


Add the risen yeast, the sunflower oil, the salt and the rest of the warm milk.


Put the composition in a tray.

Above add the cherries and other fruits you like.


Put it in the oven at 180 Celsius degrees for 30 minutes and then lower the temperature at 140 Celsius degrees and keep the cake inside for another 15-20 minutes or until ready.


It´s very good in the morning with a cup of coffee :) .

Yogurt Cake - recipe

Ingredients:
  • 200 milliliters of yogurt
  • 150 grams of flour
  • 100 milliliters of sunflower oil
  • 60 grams of sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 spoons with cocoa powder
  • salt

Beat the egg whites with half of the sugar until fluffy.

Separately beat the egg yolks with the remaining sugar for a minute or two.

Mix the beaten egg whites with the beaten egg yolks. Add the yogurt, the sunflower oil, the flour, the salt and mix slowly.


Divide the composition in 2 parts. In one of them add the cocoa powder and mix.

In an oven tray pour alternatively the white and cocoa powder mixture.

Put the composition in the oven at 180 Celsius degrees for 40-50 minutes or until ready. Do not open the oven during the baking!


Enjoy it with a cup of cappuccino ! :)

Zucchini and cheese balls - light dinner

Ingredients for 2 - 3 people:
  • 150 grams of feta cheese
  • 2 zucchini
  • 3 small potatoes
  • 3 young onions
  • 1 carrot
  • 3 eggs 
  • 4 spoons with flour
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 spoon olive oil
  • some dill
  • salt
  • pepper


Clean and grate the zucchini and the potatoes.Salt them a bit and let them drain for 20 minutes.


Meanwhile, clean and chop in very tiny pieces the carrot, the young onions and the garlic.


Mix the drained zucchini/potatoes with the vegetables from above. Add the eggs, the feta cheese, the dill, the salt and the pepper and mix.


Add the flour and mix.


In a pan add 1 spoon with olive oil and let it heat well.

Make little flattened balls and put them in the hot pan.


Fry them on each side until golden brown or until ready.


Can be eaten with fresh cream.

Green beans in tomato sauce - vegetarian recipe with step-by-step photos

Ingredients:
  • 500 grams of fresh green beans
  • 200 milliliters of water
  • 200 grams of tomatoes
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 spoons with sunflower oil
  • a few small branches of dill
  • pepper
  • salt


 Heat the sunflower oil. Add the chopped garlic and let it fry until yellow.


Add the green beans, the tomatoes and the water and let it cook at slow fire for 50-60 minutes or until tender.


When almost ready, add the chopped dill, the salt and the pepper and let it simmer for another 10 minutes.


Serve it warm!
